If you are new to mental health difficulties or if this is something that you have had in your life for some time, it can feel overwhelming. It may be that you feel a mixture of feelings about your mental health, or you may feel nothing at all, as it all feels a bit much. Both ways that is okay and natural, your mind is trying to work it all out. 

In many ways mental health is just like physical health- everybody has it and needs to take care of it. Good mental health means generally to be able to think, feel and react in the ways that you need and want to live your life. However if you are going through a period of poor mental health you might find that the ways you are frequently thinking, feeling or reacting become different, difficult, or even impossible to cope with. This can feel just as bad as a physical illness

Support Available for Children and Adolescents

In a crisis

  • For medical advice- GP or NHS on 111. If you feel that you cannot keep yourself safe- call 999 or go to A&E.
  • Kent & Medway Children and Young People’s Single Point of Access: 0800 01 3474
  • Mental Health Direct- Call 0300 555 1000 for out of hours support and consultation. This service is directly connected to SPA and crisis teams.
  • Samaritans- 116 123
  • Mental Health Matters: 0800 107 0160 for 24hrs support from compassionate helpline staff trained in counselling.
  • Release the Pressure- 24hr mental health crisis support. Text “Kent” to 85258 for 24hr mental health crisis support via text by a trained volunteer.
